Long dry times almost always trace back to airflow. Here are the four checks that solve most cases.
A dryer that used to finish a load in an hour and now takes two or three is not just inconvenient — it is burning through electricity and stressing the heater. The cause is almost always restricted airflow.
1. Lint filter
Clean it every load. A lint-coated filter can cut airflow by 40% and slowly bake into a hard film that needs a soft brush and warm water to remove.
2. Vent hose
Disconnect the flexible vent hose from the back of the dryer and shake out lint. Check the wall vent flap opens fully when the dryer runs.
3. Load size
Overloading traps moisture and stops tumbling. If clothes come out tangled, the load is too big — split it.

4. Heating element and thermostats
If airflow is fine and drying is still slow, the heating element or one of the safety thermostats is likely on its way out. This is where a technician's tools come in — we test element resistance and thermostat continuity in a single visit.
Condenser dryers — an extra step
If you have a condenser or heat-pump dryer, empty the water reservoir before every load and rinse the condenser filter monthly. A blocked condenser is the number one cause of long dry times on these models and mimics a heater fault exactly.

Lint is flammable. A dryer that runs unusually hot on the outside, smells scorched, or trips a breaker mid-cycle should be turned off immediately and not restarted until a technician has checked it.
